The Souls of Black Girls Film Screening and Discussion with Producer
Thursday, February 5th, 7pm, Student Center Theater
This program will explore the relationship between the historical and existing media images of women of color. Participants will be able to recognize how women of color are socialized through media images, describe how media' portrayal of African American women influence interpersonal relationships and will be able to define self image disorder. Counseling Center Workshop: Raising Kids with Healthy Body Image
Tuesday, February 10th, 12-1pm, Cypress Room, Student Center
The goal of this program is to encourage parents to raise children with healthy body image. The princess and Barbie myths of beauty will be discussed, along with violent images of males in the media. This program is co-sponsored by the GT Parents' Network.
International Perspectives on Beauty Photography Exhibit Opening Night with Panel Discussion
Tuesday, February 10th, 7pm, GT Library
A photography exhibit and panel discussion will expose GT students to the different international perspectives of beauty. This program is co-sponsored by the GT Photo Club and Office of International Education. The photography exhibit will be displayed in the library throughout the remainder of February.
National Condom Day activities
Thursday, February 12th, 11:30am-2:30pm, Student Center Commons
Stamps Health Services staff and student volunteers will be in the Student Center Commons where students will have an opportunity to participate in activities focused on healthy sexuality and safer sex. Information about abstinence, sexual decision making, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and contraception will be provided.
Speaker Patrick Bergstrom with I Chose to Live
Monday, February 23rd, 7:30 pm, Football Players Lounge, Bobby Dodd Stadium
Patrick's story offers a different perspective into eating disorders. His inspirational story goes into detail about being a male with a disorder that is only seen as an illness women suffer from. Open Mic Night
Tuesday, February 24th, 8pm, H2O Cafe, CRC
This program will give students an opportunity to express feelings and emotions surrounding body image issues. It is co-sponsored by Erato.
CRC Body Image Photo Montage
Entire Month of February, Campus Recreation Center
The CRC's photo montage encourages students to recognize the true value of their bodies. Issues addressed include: knowing the "right" numbers, men and body image, women and body image, and body image and the media. This display will provide facts on ways to maintain a healthy body and steps to a positive self-image.
GT Body Image Post Secret
Entire month of February, Student Center and GT Library
This program is designed to explore GT definitions of body image and expose cultural perspectives on our campus. Surveys will be conducted throughout campus and the results will be presented in the Student Center and GT Library.
GT Body Peace Treaty
The GT Body Peace Treaty encourages positive self-image among GT women. It includes self-affirming personal statements to help women feel good about themselves. Women can sign the GT Body Peace Treaty by joining our Facebook group.
