Hi,

We are a graduate student group from the School of Public Policy studying the effect institute policies relating to childbirth or adoption have on graduate students' lives as caregivers, students and future professionals. We will be holding a focus group Monday, November 10th in the WRC conference room in order to gauge student interest in and the possible impact of a family or maternity leave policy on graduate students. We are looking for female AND male students that have considered this issue at Georgia Tech, to express their opinions and experiences. While we realize that those currently dealing with such issues would provide an added dimension to our project, due to the restrictions placed upon this study, we must request that women that are currently pregnant REFRAIN from participating. The focus group will last approximately an hour and will begin with a brief questionnaire so as to collect demographic data for clarification. No personal identifying information will be collected and all questionnaires will be completely anonymous and confidential. Pizza will be offered during the event.

Thank you,

Graduate Women's Writing Support GroupAcademic and professional writing requirements can seem daunting for many students, especially those in Science and Technology fields. However, studies show that students who participate in writing groups become more confident and successful than those students who approach writing as a solitary process. This fall there will be a pilot Writing Support Group for women in our graduate programs. If you are interested in more information, or know that you would like to participate, please contact Dr. Karen Head, Graduate Communication Coordinator, at khead@gatech.edu.

WRC Holiday Project
Each year, during the holidays, the Women’s Resource Center adopts a family headed by a grandparent raising her grandchildren. There are many reasons grandparents become caregivers and second-time parents. The issues cross socioeconomic and racial lines, but many of the grandparents are on a fixed income and the holidays are difficult for them to manage. Details about the family’s wish list should be available mid-November. Please contact Yvette Upton at yvette.upton@vpss.gatech.edu if you’d like to participate. Deadline for Gifts/Contributions: Wednesday, December 2.
