Coffee Talk Series for STEM Women

Women in Engineering (WIE) and the Women's Resource Center (WRC) are excited to host this Coffee Talk Series for undergraduate and graduate women majoring in STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).  The series will be held in the Clough Commons Lounge, located in Room 205 next to the Starbucks. Coffee talks will feature many interesting guest speakers – both female faculty members and professional women in STEM – who will be joining us to share their professional stories and their personal advice! Each week, coffee, tea and dessert will be provided so please plan to stop by for a few moments or the entire hour. 

Safe Sister Training

Wednesday, January 30, 5 to 9 p.m
In conjunction with Safe Sister Training for Sorority women. Dinner provided, Limit 45 people. The Ally level training provides an introduction to the problem of sexual violence, a brief overview of advocacy and response at Georgia Tech, and a foundation of basic information needed to continue in the Advocacy Training and Volunteer Program. Through discussions and scenarios, we will explore concepts such as consent, power and control, bias, and the Georgia Tech Policy on Sexual Harassment and Misconduct. You will also learn about options for continuing education and involvement with the VOICE Initiative to address and end sexual violence in the GT community.

Fraternity Men Against Violence Training

February 6, 5-9pm

Dinner will be provided. Training is limited to 45 participants. The Ally level training provides an introduction to the problem of sexual violence, a brief overview of advocacy and response at Georgia Tech, and a foundation of basic information about sexual violence. Through discussions and scenarios, we will explore concepts such as consent, power and control, gender, and bystander intervention. You will also learn about options for continuing education and involvement with the VOICE Initiative to address and end sexual violence in the GT community.

Ally Training

February 22, 8:30-12:30, WRC Conference Room

Light breakfast and snacks provided. Limit 12 people

The Ally level training provides an introduction to the problem of sexual violence, a brief overview of advocacy and response at Georgia Tech, and a foundation of basic information needed to continue in the Advocacy Training and Volunteer Program. Women's Night on the Wall

March 1, 5-7pm, CRC Climbing Wall

Try out the awesome climbing wall at the CRC. If you’ve never climbed before, this night is for you. We offer rock climbing in a safe, non-competitive environment. If you’re an intermediate climber, please volunteer to belay. Pre-registration not required. We will provide everything you need including, gear and instruction, just bring yourself. (We request women only.) Cost: $3 for equipment and snacks NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED

NOTE: Pay for the fee UPSTAIRS at the CRC Membership Services, using Buzzcard or credit card because they do not take cash. Bring the receipt to the wall.

Women's Day of Service

March 2, 8am-1pm

Women's Day of Service is dedicated to coming together as women in the Georgia Tech Community to serve the Atlanta community. Typical projects include working at soup kitchens and animal shelters.

Take Back the Night

March 7, 7pm, Campanile

Candle light vigil to honor survivors of sexual assault and educate the campus community about issues related to rape and sexual violence.

The Clothesline Project

March 4-8, 10am-4pm, Tech Walkway

 The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts, made by and for women, who are survivors or victims of different forms of gender-based violence. The project gives women and those who support them the opportunity to share their story in a confidential way. Some survivors are uncomfortable or don’t feel safe sharing their story at survivor speakouts, or with people they know. This project provides them with an opportunity to share their story and to not be identified.

Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues

March 29 (7:00pm) & March 30 (1:30pm),  Academy of Medicine
Eve Ensler's renowned production chronicles more than 200 interviews she conducted with women from all walks of life. It is designed to celebrate women's strength and sexuality and has become a global movement to stop violence against women and girls and to educate and change social attitudes towards violence against women. Advocate Training

April 12, 8:30-5pm, WRC Conference Room
Lunch and snacks provided. Attendees should have attended Ally or Safe Sister Training before attending Advocate Training
Advocate training is the final phase of the Advocacy training series. Advocate trainees become familiar with a wide range of agencies and organizations that provide support to victim-survivors of sexual assault and violence, and they practice the skills to work with survivors through scenarios and role plays. Women in the Wilderness Trip

Women in the Wilderness is a program offered jointly by the Women's Resource Center and Outdoor Recreation at Georgia Tech (ORGT) to empower women to participate in activities in a non-competitive, supportive, outdoor environment. Come join us for an "all-women" adventure! If hanging out with like-minded Georgia Tech women, having fun, seeing a unique place close-up, and exploring whitewater sounds like your type of Saturday, this trip is for you!

Cheesecake Drop In,

April 25, 11am-2pm, WRC Conference Room

Stop by the Women’s Resource Center for a fun break from studying during the week preceding final exams (formally known as Dead Week). Have some delicious cheesecake and, if you’d like, bring a dish (store-bought or home-made) to share! It’s a great chance to meet women and men involved in a variety of programs on campus. Come and bring a friend!
